Road Trip to Maine

 From July 11-18 of 2026 my family and I did a road trip from PA to Maine with two stops along the way!



Newport, RI


Our first stop was Newport, Rhode Island. This is a small beach town with a ritzy feel. It was beautiful! There were tons of little shops and places to eat in the town. We did the cliff walk while we were there, and it was amazing. We started at Easton's beach and walked the entire path one-way. It was about 4 miles and took us a little under two hours to do it. That's including time to stop and sightsee! Along the way there were gorgeous rocky cliffs to look out into the ocean, and big, beautiful mansions overlooking the path and sea. You are able to do walk-through tours of some mansions if you are interested. I really loved this walk and we got our 10,000 steps in for the day by walking these 4 miles! 




Ogunquit, ME


Our second stop was Ogunquit, Maine. This was another small, coastal beach town. There were also tons of cute shops here and great places to eat! We spent some time at the beach and due to it being prime vacation season, it was busy. The beach was gorgeous and so was the water, it was so clear! We also took the trolley down to Perkin's Cove and walked the Marginal Way Walkway. It was 1.2 miles of a paved path along the coastal cliffs. There were many pretty views and places to stop and take them in. I highly recommend doing it if you are ever in the area. 





Acadia National Park, ME

We spent the most days in this area (3) during our trip. In bar harbor, we shopped around a lot and stopped at a few restaurants. It was a cute town with a lot of places to stop in and look around. We also did a Puffin and lighthouse boat tour one morning and saw seals and a humpback whale too! It was a great experience. Acadia was AMAZING. The trails that we did were Jordan Pond, Bubble Rock, Beehive Trail, Ocean Path, and we saw Thunder Hole, Otter Cliff, and drove up to Cadillac Mountain of course. I will be doing a separate blog post on the specifics of these hikes that I highly recommend you check out! 

This was a great family road trip with lots of amazing sight-seeing opportunities. I highly recommend Acadia if you love the outdoors and hiking especially!

Hikes at Acadia National Park

 Bubble Rock 1.5 miles round trip Difficulty: moderate with some rocky and steep sections This view was gorgeous, you are pretty high up but still level with some of the mountains. Bubble rock is perched on a cliff which is so interesting to see. From my own research, it says the rock got there from a glacier carrying it to the edge of the cliff and then melted, leaving the rock there! Jordan Pond  3.3 miles, a loop around the entire pond Difficulty: easy, mainly flat trail with one rocky section Jordan pond is beautiful. There are wooden bridges and planks to walk on at some sections and we saw some wildlife!  Beehive Trail 1.5 miles Difficulty: hard, I would not consider this "beginner friendly" due to the hike being nearly vertical with places where you have to climb up iron rungs and walk along narrow cliffs However, I HIGHLY recommend it if you have experience with more moderate hikes and are comfortable climbing some.
